yzf600r electrical issues

bike is a 96 yzf600r, this morning I took the bike up the street to get lunch and when I got home had my hands full and left the keys in it with the headlights on. Battery was drained 2hours later when I went out. Put my bike charger on it for about 20-25minutes and go to try and start it to get it charged. Didn't want to start but dash lights came on. I push start it in the driveway and take it down the block and back then left it sit in the driveway running letting it charge up. I tucked the wires back down and tried to clean up my extra led wires so I could get the seat back on. Alright it's about 15minutes later nowand I had shut off the bike now the lights won't turn on and starter relay isn't clicking over. It's doing nothing. Push start it again in driveway and get it started but it is running terrible now sputtering and all the lights are flickering. Battery is at 11.9v. What could the problem be?

battry can't be the issue it's over 12 volts now and still nothing when key is on. No headlights no dash lights and won't turnover. No idea where to look. Replaced all 4 fuses just for the off chance one wasn't working right.

I am thinking it's the starter relay, all power to the bike goes through it first right?

Lights should still come on with ignition key regardless of the starter relay. Did you check the main fuse? Do you have a wiring diagram? I can shoot you an electronic copy to look at.

the stator on a bike will not charge much at all at idle for 15 minutes. nor will sitting on a charger for 30 minutes. a 5 amp charger will take around 2 hours to get a brand new battery to a full charge and they are usually 80% charged once you add acid. if the battery is weak it may read 11.9 with no load, but then drop in power drastically when you put a load on it. I would have let it sit on the charger overnight and then see what happens.

ok got it to have headlights and starter works now. A fuse was missing on the side of the relay. Pretty much everything works except the tach dash lights and turn signals. now where do I look?

That was the main fuse.

Dash lights are on the same circuit as the headlight fuse, so either the bulb(s) burnt out or you have a ground wire problem on that branch of the circuit. If some of the dash lights work, then it is just burnt bulbs. Running lights on the front flashers run of the same circuit (do these work?), but flashers are on a differnet circuit/fuse.

If the tach and speedo work, I would suspect the flasher relay or ground/connection problem. If the instruments do not function, check branch circuit fuses again.

Though it is not all that complicated, troubleshooting from here is a whole lot easier if you follow the wiring diagram. Do you have one?
