Chris is correct.
Plus a good jacket is cut so it fits good while on the bike, so it may not feel right when you're just standing upright.
Look for the sleeves not being too short, the front not being too long or the front of ther collar being too high.
In the back you want it long enough to cover your while you're leaned over.
Women are a little harder to fit. Slowly but surely the industry is coming out with more and more ladies specific gear that's actually protective as well as stylish.

alot of ppl swear by Fieldsheer mesh. Wont protect you as good as leather, but still does its job. I got one of them, fortunately havent had the opportunity to test it out.

I'm 6'4 and 185lbs... been hitting teh gym pretty hard recently trying to pack on muscle mass, which is something that hs been very hard for me in the past.
