You've gotta think about this in terms of what she wants to hear.

So, explain to her the widely excepted MH theory that displacement is directly realitive to size

she'll want you to get a 09' VMAX or Busa!

Taught a class over the weekend. Rode the 10r to class on Saturday and the 250 on Sunday.

When I pulled up Sunday, one of my younger (17) students was outside. He says "Man, I want to be just like you."

I asked what he meant and he replied "I'm never getting married, you've got all the cool toys.".

I decided not to try and explain that the two don't have to go hand in hand.

The only argument I would have is that it's going to allow you to get out of a bad situation fast...I learned early on that the Ninjette doesn't have enough "umph" to get me out of a tight spot so I just have to learn to stay out of em whenever I can....outside of that the only other reasons are going to convince her to keep you on the 2fiddy

There is a certain level of being able to say I want a bigger bike... because i want one.
You started out in a reasonable fashion, on a smaller bike.
You learned the skills.
You have discovered that you have a passion for riding.
You should persue your passions in this world, because this is NOT a practice run.
You don't tell a 14 year old he has to keep riding a tricycle.(no offense just comparing entry levels)
You can afford it.
You will enjoy it.
She will get over it.

Now go make yourself, and by extension her, happy.

Tell her you want a zx14 real bad. After she gets tell her you could compromise and get a 650 to keep her happy. If that does not work get the zx14 out of spite. Thats what I would do.

Talking

Number one, if you wear the pants in the family, never ask her any thing! Buy it, bring it home and say SURPRISE! Look what I got. If she doesn't like it, raise your pimp hand and tell her to go make you a sammich!

I always laugh on the inside when I see threads like this. Why not grow some and just get the bike. You've already sold it in your head, and it makes sense. You've clearly taken the time to learn 13k miles with the 250, you're comfortable and ready to move up. If she's the main income of the household, then yes she has every right to be "sold" on a bigger bike, but if you're the higher income, or if it's equal, you have the right to spend the money the way you see fit.

It would be one thing if you are in extreme debt, and financially irresponsible. But if upgrading won't hurt the bank, and you're ready do it....

Cliff notes....
grow some
get the bike

for what its worth, my wife rides a ninja 250 and loves it. also, don't finance a bike. its nicer to OWN then rent from HSBC

I just re-read my last post and came out a little "douche-ey"

My biggest victory was over my mother. 5 years ago she bitched my dad and me out for getting my ninja500. Fast forward to today, she has a vespa. She saw how I was responsible, and after showing her gas receipts and mileage, she, along with my dad and brother took the MSF and they all got motos

Sounds like you've spent you due time on the starter bike and built up many good riding skills. Now, there are more advanced skills that can be learned and mastered with the aquisition of a more advanced bike. Your riding abilities and possibilities will excell tremendously and safely. Doesn't your wife want you to excell in life?
