My '07 GSXR600 was the same way... the screwdriver method didn't work so I had to revert to the "nifty tool with metal teeth" (I don't know what its called either); it came off pretty easy then...

K&N filters do make it easy since there is a 17mm nut welded on. Just tighten hand-tight, then crank 1/4 turn with a wrench.

get an import oil filter tool that fits on a 3/8 rachet. the one with the metal arms that hold tighter when you twist it. never had a filter that could beat one of those.

oh yea almost forgot those too. if you have those and the tool i mentioned then you can get any oil filter off of any car. unless its an insert paper filter.

Last time i had to change out a oil filter i just used a monkey wrench to get the thing off.
