~6k for sportbikes, more like 8-12k for sport-tourers and cruisers

Mileage has little to do with it... making sure the bike has been well taken care of should be priority #1. I recently sold my CBR with 21k miles on it and it ran as strong as it did the day I bought it.

I've seen 4 or 5 Hondas with over 100k on them... but all those owners took great car of their bikes. , a guy I work with has over 70k on his 2002 Harley...

maintenance records are 100% more important, If the kid who bought it rode it for 9k miles with zero oil changes or anything at all "like most new bikes" You are buying a lemon.

every bike and model is different, some run for kabillions of miles, some dont. Some are high mileage but well documented maint. records sometimes over ride that . lots of variables to think about, definately a bike specific question.
