people in my class have crashed, broken bones, i've even heard of a death or 2 in MSF classes. you think they respected the bikes? they were riding within their limits when they did it? and these are 125s, now add 10x the hp, a touchier throttle, sensative brakes, short wheelbase........sounds like a perfect beginner bike, huh?

why yes it is, and to put a blanket statement like "respect the bike" and "know your limits" is a bigger blanket statement. just cuz you and yours have "made it" doesn't mean others will, and odd's are? they WILL or WON'T crash? insurance prices should give you an idea.

and you've got 1? yr of ridin experience, MSF has been doing this 30+yrs. you think you got something over that base knowledge.

no, we don't teach you how to crash, we teach you how to avoid it. and try and get a mindset to avoid it as well.

thats a funny idea, you can test out how to figure that out, my ol body ain't gonna take crashing 1x let alone every weekend.

none of this goes back to why some bikes are bad beginner bikes and others are not, ever seen a sticker on a new 600SS bikes that say's that " this bike is not for begineers" go look for it.

it's a very far fetched idea. crashing ALWAYS hurts.

and you can't teach people how to not panic. its human nature.

go practice crashing and get back to me. lol

but yet you haven't crashed for him........lol

good for you, he still should attend an MSF class as should you.

and me i teach practice braking 100% and use no clutch in emergancy braking (clutch all the way in) and yes ease vs grabbing.

and my 90% still is a very true statistics, you can teach him this and you can teach him that, but it's hodge podge vs a lesson plan. and who's to say your teaching him right, you've only been riding 1 yr..........

I lowsided at 50mph and it hurt like h3ll. There is no proper way to crash. most every crash has different variables thus cause different rider and bike reactions. I agree with X it is betteer to teach avoidance that "how to"

the bottom line is you have to ride to learn. If you panic and crack the throttle on a ninjette.....nothing is going to happen. If you panic and crack the throttle on a 600, all sorts of landscape disappears beneath you rather quickly. Its MUCH easier and safer to figure out a lot things, both motorcycle nad non-motorcycle related, with some built in safety mechanisms first. For instance:

Your momma probably didn't just throw you into the deep end of a pool, and hoped you didn't drown before you could learn to swim.

The air force doesn't put you into the seat of an F16 the first day of flight school

Driver's head didn't put you in a viper to learn how to parallel park
