I had one for my first bike, it was big and bulky but it served it's purpose. I only had it for a few months before i got rid of it.

whatever dude. You can but a smaller or older bike for cheap, learn how to ride, and sell it for what you paid for.

These two statements don't agree with each other

there's too many cruisers and other non-performance motorcycles purchased every single year to lend any legitimacy to your statement.

I dont consider stand ups riding as a form of experience...

Guess that makes me OG

Do as you wish though; everyone has their own opinion; tried and true is only good info if someone is willing to listen.

BTW, if you drop the katana all you want, maybe break a lever off or crack a mirror. A 600, f4i etc will have a little more damage to it.

As for 'a bike you'd be proud of' I know peeps on 500's that will smoke 600 riders in corners; but they wanted a SS bike to satisfy their ego's appetite.

We have a record about 1:1 of forest rides and people going down cuz they step outside what they can ride and get their egos involved w people that actually can ride... Im not talking about the slow group or the track racer group1... Im talking about the guys who ride around their area or dodge cars on the freeway and call that 'riding' then go on a forest ride and dont wanna hurt their egos by being in the slow group... so they try to ride w people in the second group and wreck trying to keep up.

The more honest you are with yourself and the intended purpose of the bike, the better choice you will make. This includes where you park your bike, how you insure it, learn to ride up and off of curbs, making yourself seen in traffic... list goes on and on. If you would like to learn to do that w a bike less forgiving, more power to you, that's a personal preference.

The people that dont take time to learn the above are the ones whom always complain saying 'man that car didn't even see me coming and almost ran me off the road' which really means... ' I wasn't smart enough to realize what that car was doing and I fkd up but I still looked good doing it.'

Good conversation, although an old one rotating the archives about once a month lol

Tell that to my roommate who respectfully flipped his first bike over a curb when he was a new rider on a 750. Respect doesn't mean when you're inexperienced. Street riding in Houston is dangerous at its best, and there's situations where having a big displacement bike will definetily punish the inexperienced.

you can put anyone on any bike you can point a finger at. whether in a panic situation they can control it or not, that's what makes the difference and extends their life.

I got $5 that says you don't even know where the throttle stop on that bike is.
