Any 600 would make a decent "starter" bike imo............... but the katanas arent the most attractive bikes out there. But same is said about my 14.

just buy you a $3k bike....like a sv or something...that way if/when you drop it, it wont be to bad...ride that for about 4 or 5 months and get you a new bike

Im with most of the post so far, get an older 600 something like a 2001-2002 some thing like that , less hp but still have the sporty throttle, and feal ! then go take the MSF!

take your time and learn at your pace! and you will be fine!

o and yea the kats are good starter bikes, not all the power as the gixxers and such but still nice !

i would go for a older gixxer my self, loof for a 2001 gixxer 6 (srad)!

they finaly made those litte tikes bikes look good!

but in my op , they do not have the same feal as far as power placement and throttle ,ex as the sport bike, that is why i say start with a 600 but that is up to him, and it wouldnt hert to get a 250 or 500 !

after he takes MSF he should have a slight feeling as to how a 250 will feel so he can go from there

Yea, I am still viewing and taking more bikes in consideration but really I will just be happy to be on two wheels. Truely the katana is not such an appealing bike but better than nothing.
