Work - When I had time off I'd usually go eat then go and work extra time with the welder or storekeeper if there wasnt a card game going on.

I've thought about working offshore. I hear the money is great and when you learn how to use more then one tool your pay can multiply. Is this true? From what I was told if you're proficient in a couple tools you can make 100k+? Is any of this true?

I worked the rigs for years, usually as a subsea deepwater consultant.
Good pay, good benefits, long hours, can't be afraid of getting dirty or of heights, typically will be away from home for 2 weeks.
Typical progression:
roughneck or roustabout
derrick man
assistant driller, AD for short
Driller
Subsea engineer (couple of different grades )
Other jobs:
Crane operator
Ballast control
All of the different trades: maintenance, mechanic / motor man, electrician.

The oil industry is hot right now and pretty much everyone is hiring.
If you work your off and have a good attitude you can move up pretty quickly.

Patrick

If you have an EMT license, you can make some good money out there and not have to work near as hard. :icon_bigg
