i used LEDs; originally when license was under the tail I drilled for two LEDs in the plastic to shine right onto it from above

now I have it side mounted and the LED's shine through one of the rear cowl air vents.

(hyperwhite LEDs are instock at AutoDiscounters; 4 for 8bux, all colors and already wiried. Just splice into the original wiring.)

and since we're discussing it; I raised the license plate on my 600 and drilled a hole for the original bulb; painted one side(away from plate) w black high temp paint.

LED's up in the vents on the side, lights up the whole license plate BRIGHT but I use two incase one goes out.... I figure its better for night time riding anyways...
600rr integrated rear

the holes aren't really visible under the tail lights to where the LED's went, but you basically drill just large enough for the bulb to go through, not the shoulder of the LED... I dont even glue them in, cuz they fit tight if you do it well.
600rr integrated rear

bulb not really visible... but lights up the license plate as the stock one would have.
