Sorry if I didn't explain myself well. Here's what I'm trying to do...
I'm taking a 3 week vacation somewhere in the world. I haven't decided where yet, because of the the whole licensing issue. I'm interested in having a two week long bike trip through some countryside and all that natural beauty , and in order for me to do so... i keep coming to the same dead end. (legally, i will need an international motorcycle driver's license)

hopefully that clears things up for you. if not, please pm me if you think you can help.

if i can get one, yes... but i don't know anything about this... (what the process is to getting one)
do you?

legally u probably need one, but i think american license works too?
my sister and her friends went backpacking over europe and rented mopeds i think, with no prior motorcycle skillz or license. but i dunno how much that helps.

even if u get caught, i doubt it matters, just tell them u didnt know. plus its not like u are going to be living there?

Renting motorcycles is a big jump from renting scooters, since you dont need a license to operate a scooter even in the states. You need the international license to rent bikes in europe. Fortunately it's a piece of cake. You need to go to an AAA office http://www.aaa-texas.com/TRAVEL/AUTOTRAV/IDP.ASP, bring two passport photos and they will make you a license.

My college roommate is from Morocco and I took a CB750 from Madrid to Cadiz and took the ferry across to go visit. Tickets direct to morocco from here are insanely expensive so I did it this way to save money. Flying to Madrid is a major tourist route so it was cheap. Both are beautiful places, I didnt take the bike to Morocco but southern Spain is unreal on two wheels. This link will give you some ideas: http://art.simon.tripod.com/spaintour.html. I would suggest checking the MotoGP 2006 schedule and going to a race like Jerez or Catalunya, you would have a blast.

Good luck.

my understanding is that you need a M endorsement to ride a moped or scotter legaly on the streets. the same way you need tohave a vehcle stret legal to drive on the street no matter if its a custom car or knock off dirtbike. racerx will probaly also agree.

scooter under 50cc all you need is a class C, no M necessary.

Ive sorta run into the same problem this weekend. I just found out that I am being deployed to Rammstien AFB in Germany. I was not sure if I needed an int. license. I know in the military all you have to have is MSF and proof of insurance. Hopefully i will hit up the autobahn (how ever its spelled) and some nice back country.
