Why do you, personally, do track days? Or why did you attend your first track day?

I started cuz I wanted to be fast and safe (oxymoron I know) on the backroads. I rode with some people that are crazy fast, INSANE FAST, on twisties and owe my track attendance, initially, to them.

Now I am hooked. And I can't lie, I want to be fast. Sure it's about fun, learning and speed in the safest environment, among a multitude of other reasons.

But truth be told, I am all about learning how to haul now. I discovered this weekend, that if my times aren't improving, then I am not that happy. When they improve, I am happier. I can't help it.

Why did you go to the track, initially and why do you still go?

I think everyone who buys a sportbike wants to feel like a racer, enjoy the acceleration, braking and lean angles...at least I do. The first trackday was a chance to experience what my bike has to offer. Second trackday was because I would have come out of my skin if I didn't get a chance to ride on the track again...It's one of the most challenging (mentally and physically) and fun hobbies/experiences I've ever done.

i was not even interested in the track....my 2 uncles and my cousin started going first...., i didn't even do twisty roads...i was just another poser on the block.

thanks to them, i'm now broke, soon to be wife ended up being soon to be nothin, got more broken body parts, more broken bike parts, less free time, work harder....

now why the fck did i start doing this? cuz i'm crazy i guess....cuz only someone out of their mind likes to lose it all just to gain 1 thing.

and when i'm at the track and doing my thing.....i take a look around, and see all the good people i've met and become good friends with....and i remember why i gave it all up.

seems to me like the next logical step in my journey of having as much fun as possible on my motorcycle! i wanna go FAST!

and in the blink of an eye on the freeways you can get a ticket that costs 2x the price of one trackday. and it's not fun to get tickets!

and man. i even had LEDs on my spankin new YZF600r back in the day. didnt have a clue what a twisty was, all i knew was how to race dirtbikes. my sport bike (ya i know it wasnt really a sport bike) was just for good gas mileage and alittle easier in traffic.

I blame Jimmy and Ralph for my want to go fast.

Sometimes, in my head, I do a quick calculation of the cash that I have tied up in this, and it makes me kinda sick.

But then, I bring in the distorted rationalizations and I think of the amount I could cash out, nothing near what I have in it, but It makes me feel a little better.

Then I ride and forget it all.

This is so much cheaper than racing cars that it feels like a bargain.
