There is some way to view it like an explorer window where you can just click and drag files from you phone to the desktop

oh, your using bluetooth?

Try the USB cable.

Also, you'll know if it is hooked up right when the phone tools looks like your phone (V3)

im using a USB cable that came with my camera. i had to setup the moto tools software so that it would look like my V3 and the screen on the Moto Tools phone says "initializing" and there is no recpetion.

i tried using bluetooth but that just too forever.

Does it charge your phone while its plugged into the USB? that is clue that it might not be hooked up right.

I have a feeling that we are missing something.

I found phone tools by checking out internet forums for that phone. Those guys talked about how to use it. Just do a google search and see if you can find them. I think I still have that site save as a favorite on my computer at work. If i do i'll post it up for you. Just reading that forum should get you the info you need.

Sorry this is such a hassle.

the actual plug on the v3 is "mini usb"
to set up driver manually... make sure the mobile phone tools cd is in the drive....
follow these exact steps

-start menu
-settings
-control panel
-printers and other hardware
-phone & modem options
-select "modems" tab
-look for "motorola usb modem" (whichever usb its plugged into.
-click on "motorola usb modem"
-then go down and click "properties" button
-then select "drivers" tab
-then hit "update driver"
-it will ask if you want windows to search teh net for the driver... you select "no, not this time"
-then it will ask "what do you want to do"... you will select "install from a list or specific location"
-the next step you will select "search for the best driver in these locations", then select "include this location in search", and hit browse (this is where you have the drivers stored... if its the mpt cd-rom, or whether is in a sub-folder hidden away on your hard drive.) if you have the cd, then select the cd-drive.
-now hit finish er whatever is next... it should be fairly simple from there.

This is starting to sound like what happend to me when i first tried that program. I loaded it right, or so i though, but it just wasn't talking to the phone.

To finally get it to work right i had to try another computer. If i remember right i plugged the phone in the computer first then installed the program, but that didn't work. When i switched computers I installed the program and then after I set up the program it asked me to connect the phone, and it worked!

Try unistalling Phone tools completely, then reboot, then install it again. don't hook the phone up untill it asks for it.
