My fastest pass of the weekend was 178mph. We were battling with a pretty bad cross wind sunday afternoon, it was killing 1-2 mph on the slow bikes(like mine) and way more on the fast bikes.

1 mile racing is waaayyy more complicated then it looks. Takes a lot more then just big power to run good numbers. Just like drag racing, you have to nail everything just right or else it won't run a number. I feel with 1 more gearing change, I could have gained another 1-2 mph on a perfect run but.....178 was about as perfect as I could get it with the sprockets I had on hand. To put this into perspective, stock busas with pipes were running 175-180mph. My 1000 accelerates much harder but dies after 160mph, busas just keep pulling.

A piped 08 CBR 1000 with a 115lb chick rider was the only 1000 (all motor) that was faster then mine, she went 181mph and is an avid LS racer. She runs 220+ on her turbo busa. I was pretty happy with how my 1000 did considering I was 185lbs suited.

Great pics. Further, it's nice to see the reality check for the speeds of all the bikes. Stock busa's running 175 to 180, and a heavily worked on gixxer running 178.

Did you get to see any relatively stock gsxr's run?

Not sure which "heavily worked on gixxer" you are talking about but..... Mine is a completely stock motor, valve cover never, off, 10k miles. Just a full akro, PCIII and a GOOD custom map. Makes 155rwhp. There were a few other gixxers out there, but I am not sure I caught all of their speeds. I talked to a few guys with 05-07 gixxers, pipes/PCs only, most were 175-177mph. Carl's(Gixxer Fixxer) went 199mph with a RCC turbo on it but he had problems all weekend and eventually blew the motor. He has gone 230mph on it back in Oct 06 at the Mile.

Less than Coop, yeah the speedos are a total joke. They always read extremely fast. Not to mention, we are not just talking about top speed here, we are talking about top speed WITHIN 1 MILE. You are having to maximize your power and put it down quickly before the Mile runs out. Correct gearing for the conditions is critical. Like I said, I think with 1 more sprocket change(I needed a 43t but didn't have one) I could have gotten 179-180mph on a perfect run but anything can affect a run. If the wind picks up, you're done, you miss a gear, you're done, hit the limiter, you're done. Not like running it on a 5 mile long road that you can stay wide open all the way and top it out, and even then I think LOTS of people would be suprised at how fast they are really going(or not going) on GPS.

Interestingly though, on a few of my passes, I had my GPS on the bike. The GPS showed 175mph, my Speed-o-healer calibrated speedo said 175mph and my speed slip was 174mph. Not too shabby I thought... On that run with 17/44 gearing I was banging the rev limiter right past the 3/4 mile marker..

There were some pretty impressive ZX14s out there also, 2 of them on spray went over 200mph with 220+lb riders on em.

She did awesome, set her personal best of 222.xx. Her previous best was 216mph. She rode the sh*t out of it. Johnny Cheese tuned it.

I continue to hear about riders ludicrous speed at the end of the straights on MSR and TWS (Texas World Speedway); I don't even try to argue any more.

LOL, yeah, "I hit 170mph on the back straight" on a 600......RIIIIGGHHHT.... Most of those people have no idea how fast they are really going....or really NOT going...But they fly around the turns so....they are doing the thing there....
