I had a ZZR600 for a little over a year, really a great bike. I had a Yoshi RS3 on it and -1 in the front so I was right about the same speed as a GSXR600. If i'm correct it should be lighter than the GSXR, similar Torque but less HP. Its definately more bike than the 650r, its basically the same as the older ('02) ZX6R

I have had a 06 zzr and a 00 zxr6 and they were the same bike. You would stomp on a 650. The model shown was not the one I had. Think older zx6r.

What about a zzr? lol, jk. I'd go zx-6r if you are lookin for a step up, but i guess its personal preference. I've only sat on the zzr. They each have pros and cons.

Bike(s):
'05 Hayabusa '98 ZX-6E

Kawi zzr-600 = zx-6e
84 hp
401 lbs dry

kawi 650r
71 hp
383 lbs dry

(from sportrider mag)

the zzr(zx6e in the states) was the premier kawi 600 until '98 when it was replaced by the 6r. the 6e hung around as a sports-touring model thereafter.

the 6r was then replaced by the 636 and the 2nd gen 6r hung around as the newly badged 6e after that (IIRC).

I liked my 6e (1st gen). It was comfortable, had enough power for me to learn on and not get bored with it. It even has a center stand.

I've never ridden a 650r, but I'd think it would have more torque down low, but would get walked by an 'e' model on the top end.

What year model zzr are you considering?

it is a great bike to ride around but just not enough big end go
i look at it and sit on them and it feels kinda small
im 5 11 and have only had the 650r as a sport bike
came off of big bagger bikes

Let me first start by saying go for it. My first bike was an 05 ZZR600, I put 12k miles on it. AWESOME bike. Very comfortable seat and it has raised clip ons which you will love (being an oldman) It has PLENTY of power for your use. I think it's a good platform for what your stepping up to with drag racing That bike WILL haul some ! Check out kawiforums.com, they have a dedicated section for ZZR600 & Old School ZX-6R. There's TONS of good info from there from guys who RIDE and OWN these bikes.

P.S. there's a lot of parts that are swappable from other Kawi's. Very cool stuff to make it handle like a dream and look like one of a kind

http://www.kawiforums.com/showthread.php?t=98579

I'm not sure why some people are giving particular advice who have not OWNED the bike. Step aside please, kthx.

zzr was also the zx-6e

zzr was the european designation for the 6e. when the old zx-6r was replaced by the new 636 it was rebadged as the zzr
