running w/o warmers would put too many heat cycles on the tire. i wouldn't suggest it unless its a last resort.

When replacing tires, do you guys swap out a new set once the rear looks toast, or do you guys just get a new rear and keep the same front?

I used to go 1 front for every 2 rears when I rode on the street, but I'm not sure if I should apply the same rule for the track.

You can do this wih track tires also as the fronts do not wear as fast as the rear. 1 front to 2 rears will keep you pretty safe just depending how hard you are on rear tires.

With modern race rubber, it's most commonplace to go 1 front with 2 rears. I just did that and ran TWS (Texas World Speedway) with the 2nd rear and 1 front- no issues what-so-ever. We do it all the time in endurance racing.

As for running the 003 without warmers, it's fine. You just have to get 2 or 3 laps (sometimes not even that, and if you bought HOP's soft/ mediums, probably 1 lap will do it) to get them up to a decent temp. The hard requires more heat for the carcass, but that's true with any tire brand.

At your pace, running without warmers should be fine, just beware of the track temps + tire temps. If it's a cold day, give them some warm up time and work your way up to pace.

I used to run without warmers all the time, it's no big deal, and contrary to popular opinion, I didn't see the excessive wear either.

What's best? Running warmers. You can borrow mine for the weekend if you promise to take good care of them

It depends on what tires combo's, track and tire temp you are running. I found out that my gsxr750 is 1 to 1. The front tire wear bar is is worn just the same as the rear, go figures.

When I run med front 002 and hard rear 002, they wore exactly the same... since I switched to the 003, the rear wears faster and ends up being 2:1.

I liked the way the 002 wore, but the 003 is oh-so-sweeeeet.

Medium front, hard rear. The front is just that good on wear.

I doubt that it was even 300 on the street, but that was mainly wear at the center of the tire. I'm getting thin on the sides; now into the wear bars. As for the guys running clear through the wear bars on the sides? I have enough worries with the throttle on the liter bike as trying to get the power down. I don't want to be worrying about the tire as well.

I've been replacing both at the same time, but the front does not show significant wear. With only one set of wheels, I'd been running the 003's on the street as well and even with those additional miles, the fronts always look good as they are coming off to be replaced. This weekend I'm going to try replacing just the rear.
