Every time I get the urge to go buy a street bike, I log onto MH, read another "rider down RIP" thread, and cancel my trip to the dealer. Enough dumb happens to me daily driving a car. I don't feel the rewards justify the risks in this city.

If I was living far out in the burbs.....maybe I'd have a streetbike.

I only raide hard on the track now. I realized just how slow I really was versus good riders and realized 75% of the guys on the street don't have a clue, and that's who you ussually end up riding with.

Scotter is my #1 street ride. GSXR for higher speeds, but never at race pace.

It is kind of (a little) redundant for a post though.... like "which oil do you use"...

No offense or anything, but is this supposed to change my mind about street riding or something? Now I can't say what will happen after my first few track days - I'm sure it will be a blast! and can't imagine not liking a nice road-ride. I'll have to get back to you - but sure, I'll like the increase in safety of a track with no oncoming traffic.

Then again - you have to fight riding at 10/10ths there too.

So i hope I don't not like the street later - cause I can't take the time out to ride only at a track - too many kids' things, and home repairs, etc. and then there's the money... I'd be undermining my joy of being on two weels in the hill country! I hope to continue to like both styles of riding.

Of course I hope no irony comes my way but... you know, most of the street RIP's we read about are dumbasses riding without helmets, or drunk, or recklessly smashing into trees.... of course anything can happen, but I just think the data might be a bit skewed to say that because those wrecks happen, riding is much more dangerous for everyone. But I definitely look forward to feeling more comfortable about pushing harder when I get the chance to hit the track!

You sure got a point with the skewed data about wrecks with speeding etc. For me (and this is only for me) the decision came after evaluating my own experiences. Not being scared by other accidents.

I don't think it's supposed to change your riding habits. I assume it was more of a gauging the audience post .

Btw. riding on the track makes you more mellow and slower on the street which is a good thing in so many ways. Being fast on the street doesn't get you anything on the track though.

I have learned that even if you go out on backroads and haulazz around turns, eventually your luck will run out, its just a matter of time. You can truly NEVER treat the backroads like the track, you have debris, cars, wildlife ect. Me and my friends take it a whole lot easier out there on the streets now that we have done numerous trackdays, and watched 2 great friends pass (RIP Mike and Tim). I can see myself giving the streets up in a few years, it has crossed my mind more than once, but for now i'm going to take easy and cruise the backroads.
Very well put, and my thoughts exactly with an occasional back roads blast mixed in.

I will NEVER give up riding on the street. Too easy to pull the bike out and ride. Track is only on weekends (and the random Monday or Friday), plus you have to trailer the bike ect... What is so disdainful about the perfectly good asphault right outside my door? I respect your opinions, but track snobs are just as annoying as street squids.
