co worker WAS going to get a new cbr1000rr

he's been raving about getting this bike. it was totally something he needed in his life (or at least he'd have you beleive) and i thought i'd have a sportbike person to ride with at work. pfft. no.
he just checked out full coverage insurance on the thing and was quoted something crazy like 500/mo. so now he wants a harley fatboy. :( saaaad me.
i told him about motohouston, i told him about craigslist, i tried to explain that the 2008 cbr1000rr is not the only bike in the world. i dont think he cared. dammit. now i'll have 5 cruiser tards on my shift. im the only sportbike guy, and the only one even close to wearing full gear. i lack pants.
i just cant understand how someone can be so gung ho about getting a sportbike, and then encounter a big insurance quote and suddenly be cold turkey on the whole sportbike thing.

he's scuuurrrrddd! If he can't handle the insurance, how's he gonna handle the maintenance or gear or medical bills... It's like people who buy puppies and don't realize the responsibility of vet services, food bills, etc. Crazy!

oh yeah, forgot to mention... he rode dirtbikes as a kid and in his more youthful years. he has taken the msf and has his m endorsement, but this would be his first bike on pavement. lol.
i have been trying to sell him on getting an sv650 or something easy and small. maybe a ninja 650. no shame in starting with something smallish and something you wont immediately kill yourself on. it took me over a year to nearly a year to almost kill myself. if i had slid into that tree i wouldnt be so happy right now. just 5 feet...

anyways, im at his dumb . all he has been talking about for nearly a year is how cool it will be when he gets his cbr1000
blah.

Tell him to take a low interest credit card, buy the bike with that and get liabilty and comp (theft, fire, etc). You don't have to have FULL coverage on the bike if it's paid for. Besides, the stealerships want too much interest ie; 9 percent in some cases.

I was quoted extremely high for insurance. I called another company and the agent said that meant that the first company would cover me but they would rather not.
She quoted me her price and it was a huge improvement.

Tell your friend not to give up on his dream, just do some shopping.

Is interested in buying an image that he can project onto himself or is he interested in riding a bike? Seems to be the first so maybe it's not a bad idea that he put that thought down and may live a little longer.

It depends on the person and their driving record (possibly where they live also, I am sure an agent can tell us what it truly entails). State Farm quoted me MORE than Progressive. Then Geico gave me the best rate on the new bike.
