Visited Katy Yamaha Today

Cool new shop on I-10 near Mason, south side of 59. I met with the owner, Wayne, and chatted for an hour or so about the business. Wayne purchased the "Hurst / Adventure Yamaha" franchise from Darryl Hurst, it's the one that used to be out past Katy Mills. The original franchise closed it's doors last year and Wayne bought rights to the franchise to move it closer to town in the new facility.

First off, Wayne is the most patient, interesting, level headed, long term thinking motorcycle franchise store owner I've ever talked with. We talked all sorts of topics from bikes to economics, business model to the Matric. he is a jack of all trades and he designed the whole shop with his own CAD design and it is top notch with everything custom built and designed to facilitate the business at hand. Stackable 4 wheeler storage / display, second floor crate storage above the offices, outdoor portico for service like the high end car dealerships, accessable checkout / order kiosks for parts and accessories (not a counter like most shops), very nice sales offices, leather sofas and widescreens, stone exteriors, modern architectural touches, large clean well thought out service bays, and a host of smaller touches I couldn't grasp with one short visit. You can tell Wayne and Patty have out their heart and souls into making this a top notch operation.

Although they are not opening their doors until November 1st or so, the facility is staffed, 90% operational, and trial running during "normal" business hours. If you've ever wanted to see what it takes to put together a large dealership, it's an interesting time to visit and take a look around. I'd say the showroom is 95%, offices 90%, parts 50%, service 50%.

On a side note, Yamaha US is changing it's official colors to Red / White this year from Blue / White in previous seasons. Although the race teams are sticking with blue / white. Strange move?

Lastly, Wayne was very accomodating when listening to my off the wall ideas for MotoGP viewing parties, special events, BBQ's, MSF, blah blah blah. I'm gonna go back in a few weeks and see if we can't get him on board as a site sponsor.

I haven't been by yet but I've heard they're nice folks, and yeah more at Fry and I-10 (no where near 59)
if they took over spot that ghetto furniture place was in, they'll have a nice set up and lots of room.

and Bahama Mama's FTW!

Yup.... Nice place. I dealt with Billy Pine and Patty (I believe) who sold me their first White and red 2009 Yamaha R6. Great to do business with, very patient and Awesome Customer service. That place is going to boom even more once they expand to the other side of the building too.
