have the A* SMX-3 and they are awesome, except where the side ankle support and the outside portion of the lower foot protection meet - squeaks...have heard others at various trackdays with the same issue...only thing I don't like about them

That's really a personal choice, try both of them out and see which fits best.

I have a pair of sidi vertigo boots, they're very comfortable and they fit perfect.

I LOVE my A star Supertech's. I've managed to walk away from 4 wrecks in them (at the track). They are comfy and very protective. I'll probably buy A star for my next pair.

I have the Alpinestars SMX plus and love them. I chose the Astars over the Sidi b/c of fitment. The A-stars have that innerboot lace up where as the Sidis do not. I cut down the squeaking and creaking by using bicycle chain wax on the ankle joints. Almost silenced them with one application and that was about a year ago. Honestly, I don't think you can go wrong with either brand. Just make sure whatever you get has a good amount of protection and fits well.

Well, 3 of my good friends that race with CMRA and never do trackdays each went through a pair of A-star boots in one season. I personally think A-stars suck when compared to SIDI. I'm on my 7th season of the same pair of SIDI boots with over 70 trackdays and about 12 race weekends on the same pair along with 39,000 street miles. All the stitching is still together and the soles are fine. I'll only buy SIDI. Second choice would be Oxtar.

Another vote for SIDI. Used their bike shoes for years so when it came to the motored variety I purchased the Vertigo Corsa Air. Best purchase ever! Had an unfortunate get off at the track this weekend and the boots kept my toes and ankles unscathed.
