What are you guys with 1000's doing that don't have a factory cotter pin? I'm affraid the lock nut is going to break if I tap it for safety wire.
As long as your leathers zip together, they will pass. These Tech people are not that strict. I don't even think they know what they are looking at on bikes. You will have to either drill and safety wire the axle nut or put a cotter pin in it. You will also have to drill the drain plug for safety wire and put a hose clamp around the oil filter, then you can safety wire the hose clamp to something. I actually haven't safety wired my 1000 yet. I drilled the plug, installed the clamp and drilled the pinch bolts but haven't ran the wire. I was gonna wait until I tech it in and see if they even check it. If they do I will wire it right then. The will look at the stuff though and they WILL check your deadman switch though to see if it actually kills the bike when you pull it. I used a $1.50 key chain lanyard from wal-mart and velcro'd it to the engine kill switch and it works fine...at least a couple times until the velcro loses its grip. LOL

Go to www.texasmile.com for a list of safety requirements etc. You need to get your registration in though, its $30 more to register at the gate.

Ok cool! I've got pretty much everything ready to finish the safety wire. I have a pre-drilled oil plug and picked up a K&N oil filter since I'm due for an oil change. I've got a nice tether kill switch already installed so I should be good. I need to remove the passenger pegs and install the metal chain guard and do a twice over. I just need to find a hotel now.

Are you guys racing both days or just one? I'll have the Blue '08 with everything powder coated black. I talked to Johnny Cheese last week and he said he would be there also. I figured I would check out the event before I went crazy with mods at this point for top speed.

Yeah I will be racing both days. Look for the TFA tent(Team Fat ), thats where we pit. There will be about 5-6 of us pitting all side by side. Johnny always pits with us. In my pack there will be my silver/black 01 1000, a candy green ZX12, a lime green ZX12, a 03 burnt orange busa, a black turbo busa that has "Third Coast Speed" stickers on it. Then there will be at least 4-5 other bikes/busas there with us in our pit. We "should" be setup relatively close to the starting grid. I am going on friday morning to help secure our spot. Come find us when you get there and hang out. After the race each night, we all go out to eat together and usually end up drinking in the parking lot at the hotels. We are staying in Beeville.

Honestly, I am not sure about camping there. I know there is a ton of RVs out there but not sure if they stay in the park over night or not. Hit up the Texas Mile website, I am sure there is details about that. You could also call Shannon from The Texas Mile, her number is on the site.

No I am not going to No Problem. I already have my bike prepped for the Mile so I won't even be riding it on the street again til after the Mile. I will be working on the busa this weekend though, hopefully I can finally take it on its maiden voyage around town...
