HOV Accident

Seemed like a cruiser was in an accident this morning, not too serious in the HOV. 2 buses pulled over blocking traffic and a bike with guy with a hole in his jeans. Split up that far to avoid sitting still forever... of course other cruiser guys followed me after they saw me moving...

2 buses and a bike crash makes it seem really bad, i don't think it was though, hope he's ok without any roadrash. I think he was in full riding pants, but I could be wrong.

I was riding in to work today and was on the exchange lane from Beltway 8 to 59 S. in Stafford (not an HOV lane though). There were very few other cars far ahead and behind me so I was riding relaxed. It is a long slow curve around and I was changing lanes because it merges from 2 lanes to 1. All of a sudden there was this thick heavy metal grate laying right in between the lanes. Even if I hadn't been paying attention I would have missed it, but if I had changed lanes 2 seconds later I would have hit it and who knows what woulda happened.
I guess accidents don't always necessarily happen when another vehicle causes it.

oh man i hate the freeway debris. heavy traffic last week i was doing 60mph and i changed lanes. all the sudden i see in the lane i was JUST in there was a 3 foot long 4x4 wooden post laying across the lane. that would have NOT been a fun one right there. i prolly woulda hit it and popped my front wheel and the cars behind me woulda plowed over me.

Holy ....
Sometimes I feel like pulling over and getting that off the road thinking it'll keep another rider from taking that fall. But I know Houston drivers would just as soon hit me for making them 40 seconds later to get to that job they really hate!

I saw one of those big ratchet spool things that 18-wheelers have along the sides of the flat trailers for tying stuff down with the straps laying in the middle of the Allen Parkway exit off 45S next to downtown last week. It gave me chills when I drove past it.

debris - it's the lack of tarping enforcement

I'm not sure what the TX laws are on this, but some states require tarps covering any stuff being hauled in a truck, stuff that's not individually tied down. Either the TX laws aren't being enforced or don't exist because the debris is everywhere. Never seen anything like it till Houston. I guess we're all adventure riders on street bikes.
