everything i've heard about the icon isn't good. i personally would never wear one.

the rf-1000 isn't a bad helmet, but the x-11 is much better and comparable in price to the rx7 corsair arai you were considering. it just comes down to head shape.

I hear the x11 is a bit louder (wind noise) than the rf1000

I'm on my 3rd rf1000

if it passes snell and dot it goin to do the mininmum the law require, the only noise i worry about is the whistling noise some helmets have usually the cheaper ones seem to whistle, kbc, icon, fulmer, to me hjc shoei arai soumy are better with less noise, less weight to

go with the RF-1000 i just bought one and love it.... but if u want to pony up the money go with the arai it breaths better and puts air to your face with the eyelids on the visor.... as for icon i agree over priced and i wouldnt rank that helmet any higher then a KBC or HJC....

RF-1000 comfy and all helmets get a little windy...

RF1000 all the way. I have owned 3 and I love the helmet. Fairly simple helmet but awesome fit and comfort and good venting. New a RF1000 will usually cost between $350 for solid colors and $450 for designs. Talk to David at Cycle Gear South and he always does the hook up on Shoei helmets. I am sure he can get it for you for cheaper than that. That is nearly retail for that helmet, plus you have to pay shipping and wait. Also I believe Cycle Gear gives you a week and if you don't like it you can return it.

I started out with an HJC (starter helmet). I just bought a Shoei X11 Kiyonari yesterday. This thing is AWESOME! I've heard that Arai is slipping a little these days. I was VERY impressed with the RF1000, but I got my X11 for $400 new, so I was not about to pass that up!
