new

I just bought a 2005 zx6 and i noticed the shifter was a little loud. I'm new to bikes and was wondering if it is usually that loud when it goes into gear. It shifts fine and everything, but it is pretty loud. Thanks for any help and pardon my ignorance.

Is the idle high on the bike?

Neutral to 1st will sound louder/more aggressive because there is less mesh w/o the rear tire spinning the chain. They can be pretty loud. If you weren't in Baytown I'd recommend swinging by Motorcycles Unlimited for a quick check.

idle

My idle is pretty low. You are right when i'm in N and go to 1st and vise versa it is louder . Going from 1 to 2nd it sometimes hangs up at N. I don't know if it's the way i am shifting of if there is a problem. I can go right into gear when i try again with no problem. I just have that thought in the back of my mind though. I will have to let someone that knows inspect it for me. Thanks for your comments

yeah, shifting from 1st to second does take a lil more input than any other shift because of crossing N, but it should still be relatively smooth and easy.

It's a Kaw. They tend to be clunkier than say, Hondas. My 10 took deliberate action to get each gear. That's the way most Kaws have been for me. I've ridden almost exclusively Kaws since 1984.
