Werd. I fight with my Dad to wear his helmet and told him he cannot get a bike without one. He bought it and it's in a closet somewhere. Cruiser and stubborn mentality (but he has his reasons).

My mom on the other hand, she got a pretty full face that I got a good deal on and she wears it.

if the guy wants to ride with no gear then thats his choice. don't call them irresponsible because of it.

But it is irresponsible. It's your responsibility to take care of yourself, especially when riding a bike in Houston.

When that guys shopping bag on the end of his bars gets caught up or whatever and he goes down and cracks his melon, it's going to affect everyone around him and then some. It might not be my business or anyone elses here on MH what he does or anyone else that rides w/o gear, but I just thought his case was particularly interesting.

Thank you.

And not just kids or a wife. Chances are that the guy has some family, who is going to pay for his funeral? Who is going to collect all of the debt that he's accrued? Who takes care of his house, his kids, his car, his medical bills.

It's irresponsible.

He'll only change his way of riding if he survives a crash with head to toe road rash. Then again, some don't learn until it's way too late.

I dont know who you're calling hypocrites, but I'm pretty sure that everyone that has said something about this, wears gear.

I personally would not think of riding in Houston without gear. I'd hate to see him get hurt. And it's those guys that potentially drive up insurance rates.

It's irresponsible.
so if he has kids and/or a wife and smokes, he's irresponsible
so if he has kids and/or a wife and eats nasty fast food everyday, he's irresponsible
so if he has kids and/or a wife is fat and doesn't exercise, he's irresponsible
so if he has kids and/or a wife and drinks too much, he's irresponsible
so if he has kids and/or a wife and talks on the cell phone while driving, he's irresponsible
etc.. etc..

bottom line is that people (including you and me) do things all the time that are not in their best interest. if it doesn't affect you directly, please ignore it and move on...

^^^^people who ride motorcycles(even with gear)and have wife and/or kids, he's irresponsible!!! Would be alot safer in a cage!

But seriously, it is bad that the majority of cruiser riders dont wear gear. I now have a VTX and still wear all gear all the time.

I really dont care about who does what but maybe sooo many people wouldn't say how stupid I am for having a bike or its very irresponsible maybe wrecks wouldn't be so severe and my third degree from family and friends. Also my buddie for EMS made a good point who pays for the cops and whoever else has to show up to the scene because a guy without gear got tore up so bad they dispatch four cop cars and two ambulances etc... anywayz no one is going to change their mind cuz a single post so let it be watch out for yourself and friends.

For everyone that jumps to the cause for saftey on a motorcycle.....I can wager you all do something irresponsible. Maybe not to the aggressive degree the gentleman with the shorts and sandals is doing, but still. It is what it is.

Do you ALL where seatbelts EVERY time when you ride your vehicle?

How many of you smoke, or engage in recreational drug use?

How many of you drink and drive ever so often (honestly)?

Etc., Etc..
