East Texas Dual Sport Overnigher 10/11-12

Leave Moscow, TX Saturday morning 10/11 returning Sunday to the same parking lot. Parking is available overnight at the staging area for trucks/trailers.

All bikes must be tagged and legal. Dirt knobbies aren't required, but you'll find yourself in a heap of mud, sand, or both if you run street tires on this one.

Gear highly recommended; a helmet is required as the bare minimum but most folks will be running full street or dirt gear. Play it safe and wear the gear.

Full details: http://www.twtex.com/forums/showthread.php?t=31850

Lunch Saturday at The Stump

The overnighter will base out of the Harbor Light Marina (409-787-3212), although the rooms & cabins appear to be booked up. Camping is still available, though. Americas Inn (409-625-3747) is about 5 miles away as the backup hotel.

Dinner Saturday & breakfast Sunday will be a buffet at the Harbor Light for $9 and $8 respectively. Please bring cash.

Here's what it looked like when we ran it in January:

Alright, last call. Rooms available at the Alpine and America's Best, just a few miles from "base camp" at the Harbor Light Marina.

I have an extra spot on the trailer leaving SW Houston at 6:30 am tomorrow and coming back whenever we're done Sunday.

Back in one piece, although sore and completely exhausted.
A few riders had mishaps, but everyone was able to walk away ok.

Pics & some stories to come...

I didn't take the helmet camera, and the point-n-shoot was stowed most of the weekend so it wouldn't get inundated with dust - so I only have a few pics to share.

(maybe I should look into one of those waterproof/dustproof cameras :ponder:

TW200's just LOVE the mud! :lol2:
I guess this is a tradition now - make sure there's a T-dub in attendance and no matter how dry the terrain, make it find the mud. :-P

Once the heat of summer has passed, there's usually dirt & dual sport rides all over the place. This particular route/overnighter was run last January and will probably become a Fall & Spring event since we've been hosted so well at the Harborlight.

The roads aren't going anywhere - so just find some folks that want to go and have the time and head out! The route is available in Garmin format, rollchart, and (I think) printed map versions.

Next month one of our LA members is hosting & leading 2-day ride from Natitoches (?sp) through some great LA backcountry.

We would be DELIGHTED to have a Jeep follow and carry our gear!
Last year we had a pickup as our chase truck, but this year we had nobody willing to drive.

There was only one section that the Jeep might not have gotten through, and that was a short loop we did to Nine Mile Rd after we got to the hotel.
