Post When to use the moto-wave?

My friend posted this on the SVRiders forum and got some interesting responses, so I'm reposting his thread here.

I was being dumb in front of my girlfriend the other day, and while in my truck with the windows rolled down, I moto waved a guy on a CBR. He looked at me like I was an idiot (I am) but didn't return the signal. My gf laughed her off, but this got me to thinking, when should I wave and when should I not?

Situation 1 -
I'm driving through midtown Houston and see a guy on a Piaggio (***gio for all you GTA lovers) Scooter coming my way in the other lane. Do I do the moto-handsign? I mean, he's on a scooter...

Situation 2 -
Motocop coming at me in the other lane. Do I signal him? He's a lawman, but he is riding.

Situation 3 -
Guy on bicycle coming my way. Do I wave him? Will he even understand what I am doing?

I've had guys riding four wheelers wave to me while I'm on my bike. If the are on a 2 wheeled moto, I wave, not so much to bicycle riders though. I dont really see too many ppl around with scooters.

I usually wave at most bikes. The only ones that I feel kind of awkward waving at are sometimes the old-school hog riders and the Goldwing guys. I haven't come across any scooters thus far. But I probably wouldn't wave to them

I wave at all bikes. When on the ZX its funny that none of the cruisers wave. today i went on a ride and 1 out of probably 50 cruisers waved. I laughed. No matter if im on my HD or my ZX i wave

HAHA I see the old lady with the mohawk all the time. I'm usually around League City.
I laugh now when I see her, because her hawk has gotten all wind-worn. She's hardcore!
