Bike Totaled!!

Got the call from Honda today they finished the estimate of damage on the bike it racked up to 6000. He told me insurance will most likely total it. Just wondering what some of you would do. I was thinking buy the bike back and make the repairs " Mostly cosmetic not frame damage" only problem is front brakes fail they lose pressure and they didnt understand why, or take the money and buy another bike which will be another Honda.

just figured there cant be to much to go wrong with front brakes the lines are good, the calipers are fine, the only thing that cause them problems is the lever hit the ground first. I was just thinking it would be cheaper to have this bike paid for and buy new plastics and the pegs and bars were gonna be replaced with aftermarket anyway so this is a good time to do so

dont have pics yet, will get some up tues when i go pick it up. Its really not that bad just every piece of plastic has some rash only one piece actually broke. The right mirror broke off, the clutch cover has some scratches but not to bad, also broke off right foot peg and bent brake lever on the peg and bars, the bar end is on but scratched, the front fairing has minor scratch on the side that cause the ram air duct to have a minor crack and it slightly shifted to the left probably fixible not noticeable. only major plem is the front breaks will not hold pressure if you pump them they gain pressure but with a minute they are dead again after you let go." possibly bleed the lines will fix'

Just replace with braided lines and a new master. Then ride it like you stole it!

Nine times outta ten, if it won't hold pressure and you have no external leaks, there is a seal gone or damage to the master.

Thats what im thinking, i know the bike wont be worth much with a salvage title but im gonna keep it till the wheels fall off them but them bisches back on again and ride some more, also because of loan transferrs and problems with the bank and then the hurricane ive anly made 1 payment on the bike lol

if the price is right, definately buy it back and make the repairs, the brake system is minimal in parts, anything can be replaced / repaired lot cheaper than having payments on a new bike.
plus, you got the hook-up via Moto-Houston for replacement parts and plastics, custom painting, powder coating, , anything you need is priced right cheaply through the various sponsors found in the sponsors section on this forum

Find out how much to buy it back. If its not much buy it and get another Honda and track that one out. I'd definitely try to keep it.

If the price is right, buy back.

Likewise on the mastercylinder.

Why is everyone skeered? there are two calipers, two rotors, to braded lines, a separation block, mastercylinder and a reservoir. Its not a big, complex system.

No offense to mechanics, since I r one.... well, a tech.... some can diagnose, others really cant do more then replace parts like the customer would. Honest truth no one likes to hear. That's why trusted peeps like Motorcycles Unlimited get my business when Im not going to touch it.

i aint skerd of no brakes, but yeah fixing the brakes cant be rocket science seems like simple parts and no electronics to worry about

As for the salvage title, talk to you insurance.

Usually yes, the bike will lose alot of value. But it is still insurable(limitedly)

way over typed

Hey what did you lay down a 08 cbr? IF SO... this is what I would do sense its what I did on my 2007 r6 just two weeks ago. Adjuster came out and was pricing parts from a dealer which pitched the price over 6,000 in about 15 minutes and still didn't have all the parts on there. It is unreal the cost they have listed for items to replace my factory ugly exhaust to be replaced with a new factory exhaust cuz it got scuffed 980 ... DOLLARS I COULD BUY A WHOLE NEW COMPLETE EXHAUST SYSTEM. So my bike was totaled because dealers cost is unbeliavable. I wanted to do the same as you and still have a bike, insurance offered me 7,000 for my brand new bike. Also they said minus 35% of that and I can keep it with a salvage title which my lien holder would have tripped. Insurance guy just said sorry either you accept the fact your bike deppreciated 4,000 in 6 months and take that or eat the huge 35% so you can still play motorcycle. So little research-- in texas you have the right to choose your shop for repairs so I called the insurance guy and told him I found a shop that would fix the bike for 300 under total (4,800) he asked me the name of it I just gave him the name of the shop I work at he send ok well we can do this I will come out there tommorrow and cut you a check for the full amount to total (5100) and the next I had my check he we were done. NOW what would you do with 5k for your bike? ME( hot bodies undertail exhaust chain sprocket, power commander, all new fairings with fresh paint work and still have 2,500 in my pocket---you should try it. Sorry typed too much so proud of myself.
