Went down on a blind S curve.

Yeah...it's another one of those Evac story's.

So i evac to San Antonio the riding out there is sweet lots of curves and hills and i loved it! There are very few rides that at the end of em i can nod and say "well that made me a better rider." All the rides i took in San Antonio felt like this. anyway on to my story ^_^

I suit up for my morning ride im all smiles because im gonna go down to a really cool spot i found. It has S curves big hills and best of all miles of nothing no one around to bother me just me and road. (even now when i think about it i cant help but smile)

SO im out i get to my spot no problem and ride it till i have to make a U turn to come home. On my way back i calm down a lil bit im just relaxing taking it easy ive got like 2 blind S curves ahead of me so i slow down i get through the first one no problem and i start to take the second. No biggie im doing fine i am not speeding or anything im totally in my lane in the middle, Then this HUGE f150 comes bolting through the S curve he doesnt see me and he gets in to my lane. The first thought that enters my head is "OH S*** MOVE!" so i pull my body and bike away from this guy and he Barely misses me. But because of the way i did it i end up on the corner of the road it wouldnt be such a big deal but this is a country road and they dont make the pull offs for those. Guess what it was? ( okay you done now??)

I pulled off in to a buttload of gravel and i cant stabilize my bike to get it on the road my bike just kinda slides with me on it for about 10 ft. Me and it are both on the ground im am so angry i turn around expecting the guy to be there because heck he almost smoked me. Nothing the guy didnt even stop my gear took most of my damage and i was bleeding from both legs and shaken up. My bikes front fairings are messed up and the insurance company said they would take care of me. All and all i still like the riding in San Antonio and i continued to go out everyday and ride as long as i was there. My friends thought i would be scared after i went down but if you never get back up you never ride again and that to me isnt an option .

I was a lil shaken up and kinda mad. But when i called my insurance company and told em what was up they were really cool about it and told me that they had me taken care of. I have yet to get the fairings repaired but they are in the process of taking care of it. I was mad when i thought id have to ride around with my brand new 08 bike with messed up fairings because some guy cant take a turn at the right speed.

One should be very carefull when going out alone on backroads that have little traffic. Glad that you are okay and that you were able to fix yourself up and get out of that situation.

Sorry man. Just hearing the story makes me mad. It reminds me of how careless people can be, and how little some respect motorcycle riders.
Just be glad you are ok and you have insurance.
Your gear just saved you from some pain too. I've fallen at 45 or 50 with no gear but helmet and gloves. That day and the following month was the most painful event of my life.

What the is wrong with people? Why is everybody on the streets in a car so overly busy with themselves that they don't even realize that they almost killed somebody? This is just sad. It seems in this country it's really just about ME . Seems not only the backroads of Houston are filled with Rednecks who don't care.

I'm sorry you went down, but I'm glad to hear that you're okay and didn't have much damage. Legs okay now? You didn't mention what happened to them. Were you just wearing jeans or riding pants?

First off, glad you made it thru relatively unscathed.

Second, this reminds us of why running a "race" line on the street, especially on blind/unfamiliar turns is unsafe. Entering wide, clipping the apex and ending wide is a recipe for disaster on public roads.

Try to "late apex" or use the outside of your lane, especially on left handers where you will be leaning towards the oncoming traffic. It goes against your basic thinking, but try to stay more straight, later into the turn, until you can see the exit. Then you make a single hard turn and end up coming out closer to the inside or center on the lane. Another upside is you get to corner harder for the same entry speed... more fun, less risk.
