Hurricane report from Kemah

Been a busy few days since the storm!! Thanks to all those who called, Amy and I stayed home and rode it out in Kemah. We sat on the front porch until after the eye passed over then got chased in. Wicked power. We had a 500w halogen aimed across the street into the vacant lot and could see it all. Eye passed directly over and lasted almost two hours.
I have spent the last two days acessing damage to clients interests around the lake and bay. A real emotional roller coaster. Took a guy into the zone today to see his boat which was not damaged, then ran him to his house on the bay up near El Hardin and it was GONE...............What do you say to a guy?
All my clients came out 100% with the exception of the 1941 Elco which suffered minor cosmetic and structual damage tot he canopy. The "N" pier at Lakewood yacht club got the worst of anyplace in the lake. Four 65'+ boat are on the bottom, a 72' Grand Banks is in the parking lot, 60 grand Banks also in the parking lot. Both are BRAND NEW, never sold. Bummer. We did manage to save 16 boats today before the water started to retreat in rapid fashion. It is a scene of undescribable proportions. I would guess the losses at LYC to be a billion at least. It spins my head................

Here is a link to some pics we shot Saturday pm. I'll sort the rest and get some up that show the real story after the water went away. Anyone want to buy a boat?

Glad to hear that you and the family are good. Tried to call but I would imagine the cell towers are at capacity as it is. Thanks for the update!

BTW - the photobucket account is marked private. You'll need to make it public to share.

All is well, got power back yesterday and good thing cause the drone of the gen was about to make me mental. Been doing all we can to save the boats that are still floating but batteries are going dead with no power in the marinas. Going to be a while until they get it all sorted at the marinas as they will all need new power boxes once the power is back on. Sad to see boats that survived the storm only to sink as the batteries die and they loose bilge pumps.
Plan on making a trip to Galveston on Thursday to look for a 1936 classic sportfish that was up on blocks at pier 77, then need to get to GYB to look for a couple of other clients boats in there. I need a good photographer who would be willing to post the pics up on another site for me in a quick manner. Hard to drive and shoot at the same time, and my evenings are filled with phone cals and emails to worried owners. Anyone with mad photo upload skillz?

The pumps have to run non stop? Excuse my ignorance. I just didn't know that they had to run the whole time. I would have thought that they would install better instrumentation with float switches on them and only turn on when needed.

Oh and Honda Generators FTW. Those things are super quiet.

You are correct, they have float switches, but many failed or got stuck form the jostling around and the batteries are dead. Some idiots even left D/C lights on and made it worse. Some have no power left to start generators to recharge. Lots of the boats suffered minor bottom damage from debris that has caused leaks as well. But the shaft logs are usually the culprit, that is where the shaft exits the hull and requires raw water cooling for the shaft which is provided by a controled leak in the stuffing box.

Thanks for the info on Lift repair. I dodn;t think there is a travel lift left operable in the area. Maybe S.tx Shipyard. I will pass on the number.
