You could go to the gym and workout cardio all you want but until you learn how to ride the bike in a more relaxed manner it will be a long time before you see any ROI.

How do you get more relaxed? Set the bike up properly..and by that I mean your controls and suspension. The more natural position your control setup puts you in, the easier it is to ride the bike. The more comfortable you are on the bike the smoother you will be...less strain in all areas.

If your forearms and wrists hurt..I can say that your control setup is most likely the cause..your having to work to hard due to positioning.

I agreed with diggler. I have been working out 4 days out of a week for over a year but still exhausted at the track when I hauled . If you are not smooth, it will wear you out. Racing or track riding is not just physical but also mental. If your mind isn't sharp or fresh, your body will feel the same. Having good rest, proper diet, and excercises will help but there is a time you just have to accept that you are no longer young. You will never be as fast as a young whipper snapper. Only way you ever be young is when you think that you are still young and become like Gixxerbill. Hope that helps.

i can say without a doubt that cycling has had a positive effect on both my endurance/times...

after barber i've decided to start doing more weights inbetween trail riding days...

protein drinks can also help your recovery rate a LOT... (but it's best to find out which one and how much of it works for you...)

and be ready for what could be a battle chris... i just started in march or so - and am only halfway where i want to be...
