its not just the throttle control that can kill you. the brakes can get you hurt and your bike trashed quick. i weigh 245 and am 6 ft. i started on a 675. i've almost crashed plenty in the first few months. no matter what you ride, you can die. i could'nt bring myself to ride a 250 either. but if you do get a used one, get your liscense and ride it for 6 months or a year. sell it, get what you want, get full coverage insuranse for a better price after having your liscense for a year. only you can decide. be careful and responsible. just because you want a bike isnt what should be the determining factor. the question is , do you have any business riding a motorcycle? are you that kind of guy? could you fly a jet fighter plane if someone showed you how? good luck

On the serious side...check the sticky, do a search and you should quickly get the idea on the ideal starter size/displacement and why.

Shop insurance before you buy your first bike. 600 would be a good starter bike if your a big guy.

Might even want to consider a cruiser insurance will be 1/3 of the cost of a sportbike for a new rider.

Can't post photo at work but here is the site that I ordered it from. Took about three weeks to get it. Limeys had to put down the tea glass and leave the Pub to make me one, lol...

http://www.revsperformance.com/index.html

Took about 10 minutes to install. Everything fit perfect. Will post a photo in the evening.

the first street bike I started out on was a R6, it was fine for me, I could control it well enough that I wouldn't kill myself, until.... I met the guys from this board. We took a ride down memorial and allen park, I was driving so fast I felt I was in a phukin video game. Looking back on it now, I was definately unprepared and too immature to have such a fast bike. I could have easily killed myself trying to keep up and impress the other guys.

That said, I never feel that I developed such a skill to be able to take advantage of that old R6 100%. I could have ridden a ninja 500 or suzuki 500 just the same. Although it did look much better.

Either get a beginner bike and learn from your mistakes or buy a sportbike and possibly learn from them in a hospital.

Hope you make the right decision.

btw I'm a big guy too, 6'2 230lbs
