It's kind of funny. There is a bunch of guys on this board that think that 600cc is enough bike they will ever need.

I've never ridden a sport bike, but i know they are fast. My first bike is the bike I'm riding now. (1200cc sportster) I can keep up with 600cc sport bikes with ease, but I've never raced anyone.

If he takes it slow I think he could handle the 1000, but still the smarter way to go is 600 and less. Who wants to take it slow when the bike wants to go fast! And definitely a used bike. Riding around on my new bike, that had less than 10 miles on it when i took it home, really made me nervous. Leaving it outside a bar or restaurant really freaked me out.

+1. your 1200 , MAY put down as much hp.......~100ish, but it weighs 2x as much........and when using lb/hp, it's 7lbs per hp............so maybe find somebody who knows how to ride.

And I by no means claim to be an expert.... I have just seen what they can do and well.... it seems to me it is much more then a sportster.... and yes I have ridden both. Although the sportster is probably alot more suited for long cruizes other then 20 minute sessions around a track.

Not trying to call bullshit on you... but anyone prepping a 1000 for the track CERTAINLY is not doing major engine mods. Now if you're talking dragstrip that's one thing... but for track riding you need to harness the power of a 1000 with suspension mods, steering damper ect. H3ll... Gianni even added a tooth to his front sprocket to 'tame' the GSXR1000.

this guy had a smaller sprocket put on and yea his suspension is different and his forks are shorter than mine i dont what all was done but thats what the seller told us a budy of mine has been riding for a while said it could pull a 5th gear wheelie... even he was pretty scared when he got on it.
