after you take the class, ask your instructor, they normally have a good idea on what you could get and be comfortable with.

good for you on taking the MSF

Hey Welcome. Your mind and heart are in the right place. Im a mom of two children that ride bikes. agermer and kingralphthe3rdsqueen, I worry every time they ride , but when there in a group I dont worry as much. taking the class is a good idea. Just keep your head on straight and maybe your mom will come around I did . I love bikes myself and hope to have one soon and take the class too.

When i was 17 my mom said no to a bike. She also said she would kick me out if i got one. Went out and bought a 95 CBR600F3. When i rode it home she was mad! Never kicked me out! I won that battle!

Just do it!

Is she buying it or are you? My mom didn't so much approve of me getting one...buuuut I just went and bought it and took the safety course and only ride with friends since I'm still a newbie and am not comfortable riding by myself..but she's ok with it now..um that's all I got..just go get it if you're buying it and she'll warm up to it haha otherwise just keep telling her all the safe stuff you can do and you'll always wear gear (which I'm hoping you really do) and hope for the best! haha

Great on gas, costs less to fill up, more money for college

Just get a red bike to match that clean truck

Welcome!!!! Good jump on taking the class. I appologize, what area are you in? Parents will always be against the idea, and for good measure from what they know about bikers.

Get some of your biker friends, the ones that speak eliquently, the more extreme example the better, to change their minds. If you all go to church, start talking to the motorcycle ministry at the church and help w a couple of their fundraisers or something... sounds dorkish, but this works. I have convinced many a mom that if Pastor Matt has a bike their kid can when they are older(I only volunteer w youth now.)

For yourself, BE PATIENT always wear your gear. Mom will feel much better if she always sees you w a helmet on and a jacket before you ever sit on a bike(even if you move it ten feet.)

Finally, the more you press the issue, the more it will be a repellant for them. Take it easy, choose your battles. If it appears to be an addiciton that's complete grounds for parental turn off. And even when you get it, say and do things like 'I'm not going to ride until my other biker friends get here.' Parents eat that up...

When they turn 18 there's not much you can say , I just try to stand behind then and be there for them , there 28 and 21 now , I still worry but, I love bikes too, and there happy. I figure if I can let them ride horses with minds of there own, and they can get hurt bad on then well I guess you take a chance with your life at anything you do these days. But good luck I hope your mom will understand your love for riding and be there to support you in whatever you do in life Good Luck

Well I'm not far from ya.

thursday night, HAK meeting at i45 and 1960. Hang out with them, some are streeters there, there is a busa that strips... And several track racers too. Make some friends, get some expereince through them and maybe even invite mom out for a coffee and 'happen' to run across that group
