Jeans vs Shorts

Just how much more will a pair of jeans protect you over shorts?

when it comes down to it....is it really worth it?

FACTS please.

I went down in jeans about 5 years ago. Not much left of the jeans. Pavement ate right threw them.

i think quite a bit... get down on your knees and drag your self on the concrete and then go put shorts on and drag your skin on the concrete and see what happens.

at a higher moving rate of speed yes it seems like they do nothing but really they do put a small layer that has to be worn threw before your skin.

good point. and shorts don't cover that. the shorts i was wearing in my accident aren't torn up on the knees, instead i've got some nice big scar tissue colored patches on my knees, not that jeans would have held up much better on asphalt at ~35 miles either, but who knows..

I have been down in jeans, tee shirt, gloves and a helmet and I must say, the gloves wore all the way through to my palms and all of my finger tips were worn down as well as rash on the palms. I also had rash all the way around my arms up to my shoulders. The rash even went on the inside bend of my arms. It was painful. But the worse part was that my knee had a hole in it all the way down to the bone. It could not me stitched up and it took over 6 months to close up. I still have a massive scar from it.

And with leathers on, I never have had a scratch. I have gone down at least 10-20 times and some were at very high speeds on the track. Never a scratch or a broken bone. That was until the life altering car/bike accident. Even then I didn't even have a scratch on me.

So would I ever wanna go down in shorts or jeans again? no. I do think that jeans do protect more from road debries and such better than shorts though. Imagine a 100mph rock hitting you in jeans vs shorts. There is a difference. one time on the way to work one morning I hit 2 doves, one on each thigh and it hurt like ...lol I couldn't imagine hitting one in shorts.

I'll bite. Don't know from expirience but, I would say jeans do make the second or so of more protection. Scenario always makes the difference. I'm just sayin.
You gonna do a test run? I'll bring the camera.

At the very least, jeans will protect you from bugs and other flying debri ... but other than that ... probably not much.
