He can write you a ticket if he is in uniform (even offduty)...he will have to call a sergant first but he can sure as write you up...but he will most likely pull you over.. and call a for assistance and have those officers take care of you.
(and yes if the whole thing happened the way you said it did and he showed that he was a cop by simply rolling down the window and being in uniform...and you ran...you can possibly be charged with felony evading if caught)

he has no business working traffic off duty in an unmaked car. I call bullshit. he may not even be in his municipality, or county, so unless he can prove that to you he's just another poser. I'd have lef this dumb , he's just mad that you were getting around traffic. even a crappy lawyer can beat that. do you think IA wants to know if he's out calling taxpayers punks while in his POV in the HOV? my bet is yes.

It is not safe at all to split lanes...ESPECIALLY in the HOV!! I would not suggest doing it.

Be safe
whats "new traffic" charges?

One our MH members was arrested and charged, for not pulling over for a uniformed officer, in their personal car. I believe the charges were dropped, but it still cost him to get his bike out the pound and a night in jail.

that's considered working traffic. there are laws that discuss proper methods of working traffic, including whether or not failing to stop for an unmarkerd car is fleeing.

I don't condone the passing on hov lane, but sounds like he was a unnecessarily.

A few weeks ago I was sitting on Kirby (in my truck) and the light at Westpark is green but it's bumper to bumper. So I wait until there is enough room on the other side so I don't block traffic if the light turns red. Just as I'm cross the intersection this in a white accord jets across into my lane. So I lay on the horn and give him the business. So he gets in the left turn lane to let me get beside him and I pull up, stare at him as he rolls down the window. It's a sheriff deputy in uniform. I shrugged at him as if to say "so what" and gave him the mean mug. He followed for a bit and I turned into the neighborhood hoping he would follow and try to stop me so I could let him know that changing lanes through an intersection is illegal last I heard and when someone is trying not to gridlock traffic don't be a and cut into their lane.

When I used to ride on the street, I installed a flip-up license plate for just such and occasion (and beltway 8). Just flip it up, and pass. He/she is stuck, can't pursue even if they wanted and can't get your plate number

i won't be pulling over anymore for an unmarked car... is it in the texas vehicle code that it HAS TO BE A MARKED VEHICLE to pull you over. a cop in his personal vehicle cannot keep up with me. I can dig up that thread if anyone needs it for reference

I used 2 small hinges and mounted two super strong magnets (neodymium) inside the "trunk"(one at the back by the taillight and the other under the tool set. Then I painted the back of the plate to match my the plastic under the seats so that when it's flipped up (numbers hidden) it's difficult to see it. Flipped the other way, it looks properly displayed. The magnets were about $40, hinges with bolts/nuts about 5$

I would have been doing the same thing, illegal or not. He was just upset that he was stuck there and couldn't do it.

Besides what if your bike were to overheat by sitting in that heat?

I never lane split, but I do ride the sides if its possible.

Was in SoCal once and some guy was riding between cars when some cager opened his doorto spill out a drink.....sportbike slammed into it. Never know when someone will open his door.

I have a V Twin....that ****er will overheat quick if I simply sit in the heat.
