Motorist runs stop sign, Humble motorcyclist killed

By STEFANIE THOMAS <mailto:sthomas@hcnonline.com>

Published: 08.26.08
An Humble motorcyclist died when a motorist failed to yield at the intersection of FM 1314 and Timberland in Porter shortly before 6 a.m. Aug. 26.

According to Sgt. Dean Nance of the Department of Public Safety New Caney Highway Patrol, David Preston Carter, 51, was traveling westbound on FM 1314 when the driver of a 4-door sedan failed to observe a stop sign at Timberland as he attempted to turn left onto FM 1314.

The Honda Goldwing motorcycle crashed into the driverʼs side of the vehicle. Carter died at the scene, Nance said.

The motorist, he added, is a Porter resident in his 30s. The man was on his way to work, according to Nance, and neither alcohol nor high speed are considered a factor in the crash.

At this time, no charges have been filed against the driver of the car. The accident remains under investigation by DPS.

Unfortunately the most he'll probably get is a ticket for running the stop sign. Nobody gets in an accident on purpose. I hope he learned a very valuable lesson, though.

Yep.

You should let the cops and family know that he has driven this way before, with complete disregard for public safety.
