Good find JP. That's what I thought. Find out the number to public works in the area and call call call.

You know, I am glad someone brought this up! On the NW side, in the Cypress N. Houston and Eldridge area, alot of those lights don't turn green if I am on my bike and the first one to the light. So I am not the only waiting for the light to turn green, but now I have like a line of people waiting behind me! I have just learned to run the light when its clear, but still, all I need is for some cop to pull me over and gimme ! Imma have to call the people spending my tax money and tell 'em to fix these shiffz!

From what I have seen cops are pretty understanding about that...just don't run it right after you pull up. But if you set through a light and see it go more than 1 cycle without turning, then make sure it's clear and go through.

A while ago, the AMA was asking for people to submit info on which lights dont detect bikes. They were going to compile a list and send a letter to each city demanding this get fixed immediately, or the AMA was going to file suit against the city. I havent heard any more about it in the last few months.

BTW...what the does Tigger have to do with green lights? AS far as I knew, there were no traffic lights in the 100 acre wood. Did they bulldoze and develop that, too!?!?!? Oh, SH@T!

Look at the concrete near the light. You will see usually a square "scar" in the concrete where the sensors are. If you park on one of the lines you have a better chance of triggering it.

Hahaha, that is the funniest thing I've heard in a while. I think after everything was paid for mine, it ended up costing me 3 hrs of vacation and $290 in fees.

I heard that the law states if you sit at the light for 2 changes, you can consider it out of order and proceed with due caution. I run them ALL the time. If the AMA does sue the city, Houston will be in big . I have run into at least 100 around town that dont sense bikes.

There is no law in Texas that states this. Trust me, I looked, the lawers looked. It isn't there. If it is a cop that rides, he may let you off, but those that don't just think that you are just running red lights.

well i am thinking, if you can't show it to the cop, than you actually have to show evidence in court that the light does not work... though it is a long, out-winded way to get the light fixed, at least it gets fixed for future bikers, huh?

I didn't say that it is the law, cause it is not, I simply stated what works for most people. You are the first person I have heard a first hand account from getting a ticket for that, 1 of many. You just got unlucky. Maybe the officer had a stick up his or his wife didn't give him any the night before, who knows. I am just saying for the most part, if you wait and know that it is NOT gonna change for you, and run it, cops are pretty understanding about that...but the smarter thing to do is wait til the cop is out of sight.

or next time pull over, get out your cell, call public works, tell them you cant get through a light that they need to come fix it so you dont have to run it, then wait til they get there.....hope you got a tent.

The issue for me was that it wasn't finically feasible. Once you account for at least 3 days of missed work, drive time, it adds up. If you don't win, you have to pay the ticket anyway plus anything else you acquired as well and it will then go on you record. You can’t take DD or deferred after that.

On a side note, I was being very adamant about asking what I should have done instead. It was illegal to back up, go forward, turn right or even go straight. I asked the DA, he wouldn't answer me. I was pressuring the judge, and he just nodded to the bailiff who then approached and asked me to step back from the bench. All and all, paying it was the easiest way out.

Welcome to our justice system. Sadly, this is almost always the case, not with the red light issue alone, but with just about any case you are fighting in court.
