Ever get into anything as a kid that your parents didn't give you "access" to? I am going to make a huge assumption and guess that you have. Plus I have to respectfully disagree with blaming the parent in this case. That kid is old enough to know better. That's like saying if someone leaves their door unlocked it is okay to break in to their car/house/etc. The person deciding to do wrong has made the conscious choice to do something he/she knows is wrong.

See you were innovative with how you got around them keeping you from having access. Sometimes there is nothing you can do as a parent but beat some after the fact to teach the lesson. Kids will be kids, I know this, but still you have to teach them that there can be serious consequences for actions. I'm sure your parents taught you that when you screwed up or you would not have turned out like you apparently have.

Everyone is stupid - it's just a matter of degrees.

This kid had a major brain fart - if it were my kid, first I'd hope he didn't get hurt. Otherwise, everything else is fixable - and he would of course have to pay for it, and he would, if he had one, lose his license for a while, until he paid me back. Otherwise, beating him in front of his friends would be more devastating than the little damage to the metal and plastic....

Geez - lock him out of the house? "BEAT HIS "..... WOW - hope y'all are joking!

+1 I totaled my moms car after sneaking it out at 15yrs old. The cops woke her up, and asked why her car was in the ditch, upside down. It took her a couple of weeks to find me. It wasnt a good year.
