I-10 Katy HOV lane closing September 1

Heads up...!!!! (hope is not a repost)

For all the riding gals/guys using the Katy HOV lane.

No more HOV lane..!!!! :(

Plan accordingly. I have been driving the truck all this week due to the weather and scouting some alternate roads for commuting on the bike. So far the most feasible for me, is going to be Briar Forest/San Felipe the only problem is the school zones theres's like 5-6 between HWY-6 and Chimney Rock. I try also I-10 from Fry Rd to Chimney Rock and traffic is still bad...!! and I guess is going to be worst when school is back. Another route is all HWY-6 to Westheimer and from there to Chimney Rock but traffic on Westheimer at rush hour is crazy!! Everybody is cutting you off..!!! So is not a good alternative.

I'm going to have fun blasting my air horns in the traffic..!!
Be carefull out there..!!

Here's the official METRO notice:

What a mess this is going to be. Bet it takes longer to re-open thats why they aren't giving us a date when it will open.

You are totally right...!!!! and when it re-opens is no longer going to be the HOV...!!! Is going to be called: "Katy Tollway/Managed Lane"

Quote:
"One of the unique features of the new I-10/Katy Freeway will be the Katy Tollway/Managed Lanes - the first multi-lane electronic tollway in the nation with full design standards that will operate within the right of way of an interstate highway providing multiple entrance and exit locations to drivers. The new Katy Tollway/Managed Lanes will replace the single contra-flow METRO-operated High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lane, located today in the center of the I-10/Katy Freeway. The Harris County Toll Road Authority (HCTRA) will operate and maintain the Katy Tollway/Managed Lanes."
All the info here:

Typical government, use your tax money to build it then charge you to drive on it.
