I'm 5'5" but I have short legs (pains of being asian) and I can get both the of my feet on my GS500F . I've heard the GS500 a great starter bike, same feel as a 250r but with more power. Not sure how it rides yet, hopefully I'll find out tomorrow. The rear shock can be softened tho, maybe that'll help lower it a bit.

I also sat on a 1st gen SV650S, one foot on the ball and another foot on my tippy toes. And it was lowered to the lowest stock setting.

Custom 2003 SV650

I'm five foot nothing and I can sit on a GSX-R 600 and hold it up ('06 and older models), but I would still have it lowered. If she's that nervous, just have her take the MSF- she'll understand about controlling the bike and she'll have fun - plus it'll take away her fears.

Oh- and I ride a Honda Nighthawk 250. It's really low- I can sit flat-footed, and it's very light, so I can pick it up every time I drop it. Good luck!
THIS is me on my motorcycle. Any Questions?

my girl is 5"1 and she does pretty good with my CBR F4. I agree with rojerlockless, just pony up and tough it out. and I don't think you really need a "weaker" bike, just lower whatever bike you get.
Give it a few years... streetfightin'll catch on...

My wife's first bike was a SV650. It doesn't scare the out of her when she first rode and when in a situation, has enough grunt to get her out of it.

It's not just how tall you are, it is how long are your legs. I am 5'4", but have short stubby legs (thx mom). 250's are too tall for me. It would definately have to be lowered for me.
