The Z has more mid range than its ZX brother for a better "steet" bike.. same engine just different cams and ecu.

OK THE Z1000 IS A DIFFERENT BREAD OF FUN THAN STRAIGHT SS!!! MY Z IS COMPLETLY MAPPED, FULL EXHAUST, FAST EXCEL KIT, AND IS THE MOST EXCITING BIKE I HAVE EVER RODE!!!! I PROMISE YOU WILL NOT BE DISIPOINTED WITH THE POWER RESPONCE OR CORNERING OF THE BIKE!!! AND LIKE WAS SAID BEFORE IT DEPENDS ON THE MATUITY OF THE DRIVER WHETHER YOUR READY FOR A 1000 OR NOT! THE BIKE IS ALSO MADE IN A 750 BUT IF YOU WANT THE TRUE FEEL OF IT GO 1000!!!!!

FWIW...the Z1000 does NOT have a liter of dispalcement. It's a 953cc motor derived from the XZ9R motor, with a forged bottom end and tuned for better mid range power/torque.

It's a fun and comfortable bike to ride...............

yeah, though it has a heavier crank than the original 953 to further smooth the engine out. regardless i think its just not a great way to compare the z1000 to the zx10, or even a zx6, its just an aggressive looking standard. maybe better comparison wold be a zr7 or zr12.
