Painting bikes

I wanted to paint a bike so i bought one. Its an 05 R1 bad to the bone raven black PC3, Akro exhaust. Sweet bike looks so clean not sure if I want to paint it yet. What do you all think of custom painted bikes? I will ride the out of it still. For cost of paint would you do it.

Im going to leave the base black and do skulls and real fire in candy green or some type of tattoo theme, or a H.R. Giger theme.

i have yet to see some pimped out sportbike with fire/skulls/cards/etc that i think looks good. i think that anything going much beyond the basic colors and manufacturer logos looks crappy.

i just cant imagine why anyone would want to make a canvas out of their car or bike, unless they are going to be totally ghey and only ride it from the trailer to the car/bike show.

Man, don't paint those plastics. I am sure there are some folks out there that would love to change their bike over to the raven black. I'm sure someone would trade you their plastics/tank for those black ones. If that was an R6 instead of an R1, I know I'd offer up my silver in trade for the black!

+1

Trade your bodywork to someone who wants good bodywork for some cash.

Do you have air brush experience? Real Fire and brushed skulls are tough to do if you're not experienced. If you're doing this for the first time and practicing, practice on something other than your bodywork first. An in-experienced attempt can look like azz.

traditional fire or "harley fire" is the standered hotrod flames that look fake and are squigglie.

Nothing is wrong with good ol' flat black... mmmm... so cheap, so un-shiny. Nice and grimey.
