I have to admit this...but I went from a 05 10R to an 06 6R. Reason being not enough control and too much bike. I posted that a long time ago when I first made the leap. I had 3 days of 10R and although I miss her dearly the 636 was better for me at that point...well even at this point.

I have to admit though I would purchase a new 1000RR. I have played around with the idea of trading up (so to speak) for a 06/07 10R, but I'll wait a couple years and see how the S1000RR does. Hopefully I can stick to my plan and not jump the gun on something without thinking things through.

btw those odd articles that say u can power wheelie in 4th/5th

thats not without bouncing the forks and chopping the throttle

2nd gear though, pretty much on any 1k nowadays u just nail the thing and it comes up

i dont think any bike is scary unless its got a freakin 12psi turbo on it :p

im still curious how fast every new 1k will get till they hit a limit
the new 08 zx10r is ridiculous but still fugly, its just a battle of who wants to make an uglier 08 1k, honda or kawi - both are still ridiculously fast

the gsxr was king for so long (not in the fanboi dept - thats for yami folks :p)
they are falling behind, esp when the new r1 drops bombs

your running out of summer so buy something, ride more, talk less =D

You can also ride my 06 636 when you see me out. I think it's the only candy flat raw plasma blue one on MH that comes out to the SE meets.

the 05-06 zx-6r is a much better bike than the 03-04's. the suspension works a lot better, and the chassis is much much better.

I ride a zx6r and have no had any factory mechanical failure issues so far, it's been quite reliable on the contrary. It has plenty of torque anywhere above 9000 rpms and the special edition color scheme looks gorgeous in the sun.

In my 22k fairly hard miles, I've have a voltage regulator go bad once. Not bad, not bad at all.

BTW, if ya get an 05-06 6R, get Delrin barends. In a wreck, the barends like to dent the frame spars. . . . I found that out the hard way.

as a side note when thinking about the 04/05 zx10......it's pretty much a 600 frame with a 998cc engine and has a very potent powerband from what i've heard (the throttle is like a light switch.....nothing...nothing.....nothing....HOLY SH*T!)......i've been riding my 06 for 2 years and love it....but IMO the 04/05, while possibly faster, are probably better suited to a race track......and being 6' 240# they feel small to me....

The 04-05 ZX-10R is still considered by most to be the epotimy of the literbike class. It broke all kinds of records when it was released, and marked kawasaki's return to cutting edge supersport bikes. Many editors and tested who reviewed the bike called it downright scary, intimidating even. It's a gnalry bike through and through. It's also by far the most fun I have ever had on a motorcycle. All that fun comes at a price though. It will chew up and spit out the less experienced rider faster than you can get out of first gear. the chassis is so responsive it's borderline nervous. there is so much midrange 5th gear power wheelies are the norm. It will pull the front wheel at 150mph with nothing more than a quick twist of the throttle. It's an all-out hooligan bike that only the most self-controlled riders should be on, unless you have a death wish.

The 06-07 ZX-10R's have always been considered the watered down version. Kawasaki was fearful that the bike was too much to handle, so they calmed it down a bit. Power and torque are still there in force, but it's coupled to a much tamer chassis, with better handling characteristics. Kawasaki changed the way the powerband came on, compared to the first gen. Instead of an almost sudden rush of power at 7k rpm, it's a steady increase from idle to redline. But don't let those opinions trick you into thinking it's a safe bike. It's still just as fast and just as nimble as the first gen 10r, it just feels safer while you're doing it.

Considering your skill level, and your current bike, I'd recommend the 05-06 Zx6r. It's more than powerful enough on the street, handles slightly better than the 10r, gets better gas mileage, and has just enough power to keep you out of too much trouble. The ZX-10R is a handful, a major handful. Unless your right wrist has the precision of a surgeon, I don't recommend it. Any time you accelerate anywhere near to full throttle the front tire, LITERALLY, skims across the ground. it will break the rear tire loose while leaned over before you can pucker your .

hopefully, this helps you out in your decision.
I agree %100 ive had many bikes in the past and none of them i kept for more than a year or two max, just sold my first gen zx10r cause i had to get rid of it due to a problem i had and really never rode another bike that i loved so much its true the honda rides smooth as well as the suzuki but if what your looking for is power the first gen has something special that makes it worth it to sacrifice alittle handling, i remember when the 06-07 was about to come out i couldnt wait cause i was sure i would trade it in when it came out i was a bit dissapointed and kept it same thing with the 08 in fact when the 08 came out alot of 06-07 owners i know actually bought a first gen instead of the 08
