Yes and no,

the zx10 has more hp and more torque then the cbr1k.

however,

the power to weight ratio on the Fireblade make it a faster bike

add in the gear ratio to the fireblade is lower so you get faster accelration and the bikes already more nimble then my 600cc bike...

you get a ****ing rocket ship that in the words of cycle world "Im sure the other 1k's this year eventually go faster then the cbr1000RR, but by the time they got there, the Honda would be so far ahead you'd never see it.

during 03-06 there were two zx6's. one was the ZX-6R and was 636cc's. the other was the ZX-6RR which was 599cc's produced strictly for sanctioned racing. The 6RR has stiff suspension, a stock slipper clutch (although 05-06 6R's added this feature as well), a provision welded to the frame for a steering damper, and a few other small differences. HP is the nearly the same on both, but the 6R has slightly higher torque because of the higher displacement. The 6R is commonly considered the better street bike due to the more street oriented suspension settings, and the more usable powerband. The 6RR was discontinued in 06, when the new 6R came out in 07 and was 599cc's. The reason for the 636 in the first place was Kawasaki felt that they couldn't produce enough power to be competitive in the segment with the then current engine. When the model was redesigned for 07 they started with a clean slate design and were then able to make the power they wanted, and hence dropped the 636. Production streamlining, if you will.

The 04-05 ZX-10R is still considered by most to be the epotimy of the literbike class. It broke all kinds of records when it was released, and marked kawasaki's return to cutting edge supersport bikes. Many editors and tested who reviewed the bike called it downright scary, intimidating even. It's a gnalry bike through and through. It's also by far the most fun I have ever had on a motorcycle. All that fun comes at a price though. It will chew up and spit out the less experienced rider faster than you can get out of first gear. the chassis is so responsive it's borderline nervous. there is so much midrange 5th gear power wheelies are the norm. It will pull the front wheel at 150mph with nothing more than a quick twist of the throttle. It's an all-out hooligan bike that only the most self-controlled riders should be on, unless you have a death wish.

The 06-07 ZX-10R's have always been considered the watered down version. Kawasaki was fearful that the bike was too much to handle, so they calmed it down a bit. Power and torque are still there in force, but it's coupled to a much tamer chassis, with better handling characteristics. Kawasaki changed the way the powerband came on, compared to the first gen. Instead of an almost sudden rush of power at 7k rpm, it's a steady increase from idle to redline. But don't let those opinions trick you into thinking it's a safe bike. It's still just as fast and just as nimble as the first gen 10r, it just feels safer while you're doing it.

Considering your skill level, and your current bike, I'd recommend the 05-06 Zx6r. It's more than powerful enough on the street, handles slightly better than the 10r, gets better gas mileage, and has just enough power to keep you out of too much trouble. The ZX-10R is a handful, a major handful. Unless your right wrist has the precision of a surgeon, I don't recommend it. Any time you accelerate anywhere near to full throttle the front tire, LITERALLY, skims across the ground. it will break the rear tire loose while leaned over before you can pucker your .

hopefully, this helps you out in your decision.

the kawi's have long been said to have the best oem slipper clutches on the market, even better than many aftermarket slippers. you can even buy custom springs and pressure plates from kawasaki to fine tune how it slips and when.

It's still just as ugly to me as it was when we were looking at it at the IMS. Buuuut, from everything I've seen, it performs. Glad I'm nowhere near good enough even on my 6R, or I may be riding an ugly bike.

Oh wait. . . .
