Let he that is without squid cast the first...

Okay, we're all about safety. As many, if not most of you I have my Vanson & Joe Rocket gear, Sidis', gloves and a small assortment of lids. But can you really say that you absolutely never ride without all your gear? In the past couple of weeks I've been testing my bike taking short rides around the loop and a couple up and down the 'hood making adjustments as I go along. If I'm running up and down the street I'll ride without the lid (gasp!) and even in shorts and my chanclas. What say you? Are ye one of those that could cast the first stone? Are you really the anti-squid that the prophets spoke of long ago?

I think my days of riding in shorts is over. I burned the snot out of my leg the last time.

This thread cracks me up because with all the talk of safety, there was a video posted of a ride to Galveston earlier this year or last and all but one rider had minimal safety gear.

I usually always wear at least jacket and lid. But I can honestly say that when I rode to Galveston this past weekend, I rode up there with a lid and jacket but when I got to galveston I just wore my jacket. The wind sucked and i got hit by a few rocks. The lid went back on. Its really hard to ride like a squid.

my general rules:
helmet, always!
jacket, sometimes
gloves, during cold or aggresive riding.

what i wear depends some on cold, but mostly on how aggresivly i decide to ride, and if i plan on hitting the highway. im not going to suit up full on motogp style to go get some coffee, but i will wear the lid. at the same time, if i get to the coffee shop, and someone offers a trip on some twisties, ill decline if i dont have the right gear with me, or insist we stop to pick it up first.

and whoever said about riding drunk that is not even funny, that a deathwish, and another "rider down" thread waiting to happen...

I ALWAYS wear a helmet
I ALWAYS wear a jacket
I ALWAYS wear gloves
I ALWAYS wear pants......these are the minimum, even for short rides around the block. The majority of accidents happen within 1 mile from home.

Anything beyond a quick ride to wherever, the FULL gear goes on. Sidi boots, full riding suit, leather or textile, depending on weather. No matter how hot it is, I can always keep cool. One trick in my arsenal, is to fill ziplock bags with ice, leave them open, and put them in my pockets. As the ice melts, the evpaporation keeps me cool, then the water will run down my torso and legs to give an added cooling effect!!!!!! This really works awesome!!!

I have road down the street in shorts and a t-shirt once with no lid max speed was about 30 and the ride was about 30sec long...

In Galveston on Saturday i road w/o my lid or gloves or jacket while i was on the stran and around i all my gear up there and left them in a buddies appt... i didnít like not having my lid very much and got pulled over lol......

As for the norm i always always always have pants and some boots on not racing boots but work boots) helmet gloves.... If i am leaving my little town then i will put my jacket on... and a backpack with my aqua in it....

If its cold all of it oes on...

Everytime:
Lid
Jacket
Gloves
Boots

Most of the time I'll wear leather. In fact this past yr I've only pulled out the mesh a couple times in August when things it got past 100 degrees. Otherwise I'm in leather. Sometimes it's not practicle to bring motorcyce boots with me so I'll just wear Dr Martens.

On longer rides it's full leather and back protector.
