Each individual tyre is made of different compounds and if you are riding it incorrectly you can overheat it. But what is really happening to the tyre is whichever compound you are riding is supposed to breakdown at at certain point giving it grip and the little on the side. When you are using the wrong tyre compound for a specific situation you can actually create the trye to not grip or the opposite and get too slick.

actually, the "little " (and not Blends either) are from existing rubber on the track, or cold tear.
