This leads me to my question....see how blue my tire is...that is 2 track days....if I understand correctly thats from heat cycles...but the tire still has plenty of tread...is it still good?

Guess its back to Pilot Powers for me.

I have really slowed my street riding since the track and I got a truck anyhow.

What kind of tires??? I have the 002s (2 trackdays+1 forest ride) and I have plenty of tire left. The corners are chewed to but I would say 1-2 more trackdays and backroad ride before Ineed a new rear

I have a 2Ct on the back and I think it is actually too soft for my weight and riding style.. it tends to start slipping at the end of long, hot rides. It will be a standard PP next time around; the one with the cords in the middle had 5500 miles on it; and I am pretty sure if we hadn't rode to and from San Antonio the month before the center would have gone farther.

Sportec M3's got from Motorcycles Unlimited....not even 2 full track days. 5/7 sessions one day...6/7 the next. 2 forest rides. a M&G and maybe a weeks worth of going to work.

I loved standard PP's they were great tires but they just didnt last with my amount of street riding...to give you a perspective...i got my bike 10/17/07,
by march i had 10k miles on it. i now am at like 11750. so i think i will be going back to the pilots.

How do you like the profile of the M3? The set I had always felt like it wanted to fall into corners, and it had steeper side walls than the PP do. I can run off the edge of the tread on the PP and never notice, but I had 1/4 inch of tread on the M3 that never touched, even with a couple peg drags.

thanks but I prefer the old fashioned way of getting rid of them... i.e. riding the bike...

in the turns they were great i actually did ran over the edge once though at TWS (Texas World Speedway) (most likely rider error. ie: need to get my off the bike more), but the centers lacked grip terribly. not a huge deal but i could tell the difference in the dual compound M3 versus a standard PP instantly.

Seems neither one is exclusive... If you've got a brand new tire with the 'nipples' and your pretty much straightlining it, those nipples are gonna last awhile and be part of your 'chicken strips'.

Guess it helps to know if your tires have been plucked or not first. :-)

As Instructors, we of course call them "ride within your limit" strips.

Unless of course you rode your bike to class with 2" strips and you're trying to convince us how great you ride.

So who knows what "killing the elephant" means?
