If you cant afford the whole package (bike, proper gear, insurance, maint, upkeep), then dont buy the bike, someone may steal it and your left holding the debt.
i think what they were referring to is, things such as in my case, im 24, no accidents, no tickets and full coverage would be about 3600 a year= 300 a month. then you add on for if they do have accidents or tickets. age is considered some sort of high risk...or so they say

If you can't afford to pay cash for your bike, you can't afford NOT to have gap.

, sorry about your loss.
I'm somewhat of a noob on insurance, I've always only had liability on my cars, but what exactly is gap insurance? I currently have full coverage....

Gap is when when someting happens to your bike, instead of them the INS CO. paying what they THINK your bike is worth they pay the whole thing off reguardless.

Oh, so that only matters if your bike is financed? What about theft coverage? Does that basically mean that they will compensate you for the value of the bike if it is stolen but not wrecked ( assuming that you have liability and theft coverage)?

Honestly, why have full coverage?

All you need is what texas stipulates as the bare minimum for liability, then throw on theft for added sense of security....

So theft insurance compensates you if the bike is stolen? Or it pays off what yo owe if you financed it? I bought my bike in cash, if it got jacked then it would be nice to have money from the insurance company to buy another one. Also, Houston/SA are both chock full of morons driving; the likelihood of the bike being totaled while parked/standing is pretty great, lol. that's why I have full coverage...

Guess it depends if you want another bike if yours is wrecked or stolen. Liability only pays the other guy, or nothing if you wreck it.

And those quoting the high rates, shop around. Progressive and Geico, and State Farm offer much better rates than have been quoted in this thread.

, i live like 5 miles from that theater - i never knew it was that bad there. I'll keep any eye out for it but in all likelihood that bike is either stripped down already or a completely different color. I had car stolen before and it was found in Galveston completely stripped on blocks less than a week after. sorry for the loss.
