The damper that comes stock is junk. Google racetech and read up on suspension junk it's good stuff. The front forks can be rebuilt with better internals for your weight and riding style as well as the rear. Good suspension is worth alot more than a few extra ponies.

Good choice on not buying a 1k/750 as a first bike although this 600 is a bit much but that's an entirely diff thread.

Buy some good gear fro ex. good riding boots, a 2 peice leather suite, gauntlet gloves, back protector, and some tires. Then head out to the country and do some back roads with people that are willing to help a newer rider learn some basics. I would but my bike isn't streetable.

After a few thousand miles get some good rubber (what comes from the factory is different than the same model you buy at retailers) sign up for a trackday. The track will enable you to become a much better and safer street rider if you still decide to keep riding street.

i put 2200 miles on my bike the first two weeks i had it. i threw down for some gear before anything. i had my jacket when i picked my bike up. i also have a good shoei, back protector, gloves. i have boots on order. also got a gift cert for texas track days when i bought my bike. i want to go real bad but i work offshore so i gotta catch one during the two week increments that i am home. plus the people i ride with try to talk me out of it for some reason.

NP sounds like you on the right track. Get some new rubber and at least have your suspension setup for you before you come visit us at the track.

Ride Safe!

so what are your plans for this extra 8 hp? most people wouldn't notice and to be quite honest with you, you might be pushing around 100 hp now stock, and i guarantee you that you don't even use 75% of that. most people don't. I am not trying to attack you in any way, that is just a fact that most "new" riders don't like to hear and deal with. as others have said, spend the money on more important things such as your suspension, a real damper, frame sliders and things of that nature. i realize you want it to sound good but don't buy something for HP alone because as i said above, i bet you don't use all of what is currently available to you now.

Ive read on the gixxer forums that you can buy a 07 stock header and slip on. Supposed to bolt right up. You can find those headers for cheap all over ebay.
